We are seeing disturbing images of an American east coast that seem quite incredible. As selfish as this sounds my family are safe and I breathe I sigh of relief. They managed to get out in time but have no idea of where they will go back to or even if there homes are still standing, and yes, they are some of the lucky ones.
Whilst I was celebrating my birthday at least 50 people lost their lives.
America we mourn with you.
It’s a little after 1 AM here and the last of my friends have left and the washing up has sort of been done. They surprised me with a birthday cake, at my age, but, it was chocolate and diplomatically only had one candle.
I want to just add a big thank you for all my online messages and wishes, you have all been truly tremendous.
Thank You.
I came home from a super lunch. I can now say I have found my ideal Italian restaurant. The food was fantastic, the service was brilliant and it was clean, warm and very friendly. Yes, I will be going back again and again. Of course with me it’s always about the company making the event that much more special, and I was in the best of company.
COMMENTS
YAY for new favorite places!!! And yes, the company makes all of the difference!
Yay for birthday lunches ! :) It sounds like you had quite a wonderful lunch!
With my birthday looming I have begun thinking about how fast the years have gone. More to the point the way in which my life has gone so far.
The thought that keeps popping up is the amount of bridges I’ve burnt in my time. Friends have, over the years warned me not to be hasty but I didn’t listen and they too got left behind. I am left with lonely feelings and memories. I do have a hard core of very good friends but the numbers have dwindled over time.
There will be a dozen of us going out tomorrow for my birthday. I feel good that they want to share my day with me but I still can’t help thinking about closing the door on so many. I don’t want more bridges to fall after me, all those lonely feelings and burning memories. I’m getting older, I hope I’m still learning.

We all have things that we dwell on. The things that happened in the past make us stronger people now, even if it doesn't feel like it.
I hope you are having a wonderful day.. It sounds like you will be!
I’ve just seen the weather report for the east coast of America during this coming week, it doesn’t look good. Hurricane Sandy is en-route, is all I can say is good luck.
Full report can be found at this link.
http://gizmodo.com/5955168/how-hurricane-sandy-might-become-a-snowpocalyptic-frankenstorm?utm_campaign=socialflow_gizmodo_facebook&utm_source=gizmodo_facebook&utm_medium=socialflow
COMMENTS
Definitely doesn't look good :(
Yes, these storms are horrible- but this one in particular has the opportunity to be worse than 'just' a hurricane... With the possibility of mixing in with another storm. I am concerned for the east coast... And I hate that I have people very close to my heart there. Although, I of course would be concerned for people I don't know.
It was horrendous ... Gosh, I havent ever seen New York like that before!
Finally. I managed to watch the last of the Harry Potter films today. I have to know is this what they mean when they say it’s a ‘dark film’, I don’t think there was a single scene where I didn’t struggle to make out what was going on. I thought ‘dark’ referred to the film being a little more occult than normal. Sure it was good for the special effect and the magic etc, but still.
Unlike Star Wars where it was obvious that it was good versus evil, dark succumbing to light. This was more about good needing evil as a balance and having choices to upset that balance.
My kismet was brought to you from the talented vault of Oscar Wilde, just didn't have enough room to add his name to it.
Just recently I have had so many people message me with a 'request' stating that they have rated me and/or added me and would I return the favour. What is that all about? When I use to level it was about getting your head down and rating. I have an option to click the 'See Who's Rated Me' page and will use it as and when I want.
I know I will probably never talk to these members again, in fact unless you are in my coven very few will be messaged by me.
I just remembered why I lurk!
COMMENTS
Your kismets are always funny. :)
People are pushy. >.> I love the journal aspect of this site most.
Hey, that is my lurking excuse! :P
Yeah, people are pushy.
Hey! I get messages from you!
YAY I am special!
p:
Thus why I am always lurking, I rarely show myself.
As of yesterday my car has been sold. It’s the first time I have been without a car since I was 17 (over 30 years). Living in London doesn’t really warrant a car but my how it was convenient (to some that could be interpreted as lazy). It’s now about getting use to what was an extension of my legs really but I’m sure I will manage.
COMMENTS
Unfortunately I rely on a car. Not too much for public transportation here. Some of my friends in Chicago have gotten rid of theirs, while others have kept them since their families live in the next state.
If I lived in London again, I'd never buy a car as the transport system is so good, and driving a car in there is so expensive!
Lamb chops, veg and cream mash in an onion and garlic gravy. That’s all I’m saying.
COMMENTS
Sounds wonderful!!! Minus the lamb for me :D
Sounds yummy, even though I no longer eat lamb.
Mmmmm.... that is all you had to say. lol
I have at last cleared my blocked list, it was only half a dozen names and it’s not that they did anything that was worth a hanging except be very rude.
The other thing is they have me blocked too but don’t seem to be active on VR anymore. If they do become active again and it does kick off I will just block again.
I think it’s great that so many of the younger members are journaling on VR. They relate to this place and so feel at ease to write about any and everything. Sometimes their grammar makes me cringe but that’s not the point, they are getting their feelings down and not doing something stupid in the real world. If they tend to sensationalise it’s no big deal as they are kids after all, just take it down a notch or two when reading it.
They certainly don’t need comments about their grammar or how silly they are behaving.
What they do need is your understanding. We have all been there or have kids of our own so ease up.
COMMENTS
Some of them want grammar comments. Minor mispellings aren't so bad. It helps.
I noticed that as the years went by, my spelling improved a great deal, and my entries. I bet some of them will look back and say they were silly back then. :P
Lol I talk and write ghetto...and I'm a grandmum:) that's the urban in me comn out. It's not how I converse in my professional field. This is the only place I can have fun without being judged for it:P
I agree w/ yo man!
By the way if it is referred to my bored of education entry it is on purpose to be taken literally I know it is board and not bored :p
Sme of there intries r fun, u no what I meen man?
^^ loving the comments^^
It’s washing day today, do I have to say more, I have at least three washes to run and then there’s the drying. I’m playing catch up still from the recent Jewish holidays. To spend a day among those warm dryers with my mp3 plugged into my ear will be bliss. This is called making the best of a naff situation!! Some may call it sad, but hey, it won’t do itself!
COMMENTS
It's wash day in New Orleans traditionally each Monday- and that means it's Red Beans and Rice day as well. A one pot meal that doesn't need much tending so the focus can be on the chores.
LOVE clean,crisp laundry!!
I didnt know that was a tradition Images. What an interesting bit of info! It would be cool if you did a page on all the traditions down there.
A simple thought has made my day, in this electronic age we sometimes underestimate the power of a simple card or letter.
I love receiving ‘the written message’ as it feel so personal, you have taken time out of your day to do something physical.
Thank you Emmy for that surprise card for The Jewish New Year. It’s always good to here from friends overseas. You are very thoughtful.
Another arrived today… thank you Images, from the birthplace of Jazz , so the card says. So sweet.
COMMENTS
Very true! glad you are smiling today.
You're always welcome :)
With Halloween around the corner I bet you witches are aching to get at it. Maybe make a spell for the one that had wronged you. How about a Voodoo doll? It’s a great way to get even but sometimes, just sometimes things can go wrong as seen here...
COMMENTS
LOL!
This must be voodoo because I don't see anything!
VR and I hit it off years ago. Over the years I have made some genuinely nice friends and one in particular has at last added me after five years, but I do forgive her as our agendas may have been on a different path to begin with.
Other news, I love reading the comments in my journal, I love the way a community with sometimes vastly different backgrounds share their different thoughts on my postings. Of late I also like reading the comments that the community graciously leave me with the honour. Some of those comments leave me very much humbled whilst others make me LOL.
Thank you to all concerned.
COMMENTS
I agree. :)
You write awesum journals...love reading yours:)
And isn't it all suppose to be this way?
This is a great site, with many cool people.
I love reading and commenting in journals - mainly of my friends, but also the journals of people I don't know. As a matter of fact, visiting journals makes for new friends!
I'm a dummy :)
Always enjoy reading your journal :)
We ♥ you!
I come here mostly for thr journals.
If you're a lumberjack and you're OK, recognize a dead parrot when you see one, and know your way to the Ministry of Silly Walks, you're going to want to read this. And then email and Tweet and Facebook it to all your friends who also know every word to "The Ballad of Brave Sir Robin," and think of themselves as card-carrying members of the Knights Who Say 'Ni!"
The surviving members of Monty Python are reuniting for a new movie this spring, Variety reports.
By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper, NBC News
Don't expect "Holy Grail Part II," however.
"It's not a Monty Python picture, but it certainly has that sensibility," Python Terry Jones, who helped develop the script and also will direct, told the magazine.
The Pythons will play mischievious aliens who grant an earthling the power to do anything he wants just to see what kind of mess ensues. Robin Williams provides the voice of a talking dog. (No, really.) According to Variety's report, Terry Gilliam, John Cleese and Michael Palin have signed on, and producers hope to sign Eric Idle. Graham Chapman died of cancer in 1989.
Producer Mike Medavoy of "Black Swan" calls the film a "classic farce" and compares it to the "Pink Panther" movies. But he also adds that "like all projects originated by any of the Monty Python guys, 'Absolutely Anything' delightfully defies (description)."
After all, nooooo one expects a Monty Python reunion.
COMMENTS
Brilliant news .... I'm all excited already :)
So NOT a fan of Monty Python.
OMFG - I loved watching Monty Python as a kid - lol!
It has CEASED to be! Left it's mortal coil!
Well, damn!
OMG! YAY! You and Seshat have made my year - first a Housos movie and now a new Monty Python? Omg. ♥ I love John Cleese. ♥
I love Monty Python. :) Glad to hear the good news!
It’s amazing how looks and aesthetics mean so much to the young and indeed to some of the older generation too. I admit a pretty girl will turn my head (although not as quickly as years ago).
What the young see as ugly some of us see experience and wisdom which takes on a beauty that can’t be fully described.
Deeds are the most beautiful to some and I can be so easily attracted to that. Making a contact in the mind with someone is bliss, and is not reliant on a flawless face or ideal body.
Physical beauty is prone to wrinkles and deterioration over the years and if that’s all you have I suggest you develop the other areas that can’t be seen with the eyes.
COMMENTS
So I guess I need to show up with a trench coat with nothing underneath and offer to make your dinner and a massage with a movie and the thought of you having your way with me...would that suffice? *evil evil grinz*
Wow, all that for eggs on toast!
I agree!
That was really well said and holds a lot of merit. Looks can only get you so far.
Amen!
Amen! I couldn't have said it better!
Well said. The sad thing about it, that the only way certain people are popular is because of looks.
The plan was to stay in tonight and chill. That’s right I chill. But anyway, I just had a call to pop in on a friend for coffee and fresh cream cakes. Now that’s what I call chilling! The weekend starts here.
COMMENTS
Yum! That sounds great!
Does sound good. I stayed in and did housework, laundry. My weekend starts with me sleeping in both days. :D
I agree...it is the beginning of a great weekend!
This was a young mother telling me how it is. My response is not to be taken as a rant…..
What the hell…. You say you feel accomplished because you are a mother, fulfilled, you have succeeded in life! What crap is that? Accomplished?!
Do you know what you’re saying? Oh, and as seen in the news, kids as young as 12 and 13 are conceiving and having babies, are they accomplished too?
Surely an accomplishment would be being a good parent, to have succeeded at something and as for parenting this is a lifelong contract.
Then they say a guy is not a man until he has a daughter. Let me tell you I’m very much a man not because I have a daughter but because of what I see in my daughter. Oh and FYI, that’s what makes me accomplished.
COMMENTS
As a parent myself I understand your words.
Yes, the accomplishment would be being a good
parent and being there for our kids, loving
unconditionally. It's hard, and yes, lifelong.
I really like what you said about not a man because
you have a daughter, but one because what
you see in her...wonderful words and so true.
Even being a good parent is still not the be and end all of accomplishment..it's a good start though.
If this was like Facebook- I would 'Like' this. :)
Omg you brought up one of the subject my friends and I talk about the most. I got called abnormal because at the present I dont want kids. My life and body are mine and it s up to me to decide. I am not going to have children for the sake of society.
With Halloween nearly here I just had to share this. It seems even if you’re preggers there is no escape for you!!
...and on the subjet of scarey pics I found the haircut pics from the summer! I think I can get away with it since it is Halloween month but I'm not sure I should put you through this!
COMMENTS
Now that is morbid lol
lmao
Love it! :)
That's so cool! :)
Hah, it looks like something Khayman may wear! And God help anyone that makes a retort! I want to see the photos!
Love it too
Get the message, good night.

Most people make a joke on the subject of divorce when asked things like how long they were married etc. They are embarrassed that the marriage didn’t last that long or worse they get embarrassed that the marriage broke down after so long a union.
Very few come out and say I did the right thing by getting out for whatever reason. They don’t see it as a mistake but more of a learning curve. I see strength and view them as brave as they are sometimes making a leap alone and into something that is not certain.
COMMENTS
Couldn't agree with you more. We won't find the right one unless we have been with the wrong one LOL:)
It's worse if you stayed married to a parner just for the sake of appearances . I kind of agree though staying together for the sake of the children until they lat least come to the age of understanding.
Heh, even my family Doctor told me that 80% of my stress was due to my marriage. I left him after 10 yrs of marriage and now I can be me again. I was so unhappy. A side note: I don't feel that you should stay married just for the kids. They aren't stupid, they know when there are problems and how can you concentrate on your children when your marriage is a wreck.
love marriage and divorce is a tricky thing..it messes with your head and emotions..I agree completely with you though and wish that everyone who went through these issues had you to talk them through it :)
When I’m reading journals and I know the members are American I sometimes imagine an accent of that person especially if I haven’t spoken to them before. I read in ‘accent’, that does make me laugh when I think about it.
COMMENTS
Do you read in my Boston accent when you read mine?
I do that if they're English/Scottish/Irish, but not American... unless they're an idiot, and then I read it with a redneck-ish lilt. :P
We Americans have quite a few regional accents, that's for sure!
Haha. I do it as well. Even the characters in my favourite novels have particular 'voices' and accents.
I end up reading it in accent only if they've typed with it. I'll admit using slang to enhance my meanings. :P
Most common chat message from me- "Yo! Sup?"
I do it too!
Cancer nailed it and I think it was Oscar Wilde that said, "The only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about".
This battle just continues on and on. As a journey reader it’s very painful on the eyes. It’s a shame that I can see how this will end and the sooner the better. It’s obvious that the message will not strike home.
Images is nailing it and I’m just thinking about it. I wish I felt better just talking about cleaning but I get over whelmed just thinking about it. This is about ‘the big clean’, the seasonal clean. My everyday clean is fine but the big one….
I need to make a list, not that I'd act on it that quickly but at least I'd be doing something positive. Right? Of course right!
COMMENTS
I've been up since 130AM. As soon as my laundry is done- I am going back to bed for a while. I'm doing one of those 'big cleans'. When I get up I have plans for other things to tackle.
Oh Im in the middle of one with the move in. I keep reminding myself when I'm done I have all winter to cuddle on the couch :)
I keep procrastinating myself..
..and into October. So far I’ve read some great journal entries that seem and sound positive.
Its' certainly looking festive out here with Xmas décor already in the shops, I don’t mind this but at least get Halloween out the way first.
The Ryder cup is back where it belongs, sorry America but the Europeans were just outstanding. That come back on the last day was just wonderful and the accolade that was spoken about the late Seve Ballesteros was heartfelt.
Miserable weather here but I won’t let that get me down as I need to get on and smile.
